As you can see, tomatoes contain a hint of sugar, fat and phosphorus, and have quite a bit of acidic content in them.

This means that chinchillas cannot eat tomatoes. Unlike guinea pigs and rabbits, chinchillas just cannot handle the acidic nature of the tomato and will hurt their stomach. So they are best kept away from them for risk of making them very ill.
