Newspaper is often something that chinchilla owners use to lay down at the bottom of their cage.
It helps to protect the cage floor and catch any faeces, food and other matter. It makes life easier for the owner in cleaning up the cage.
They can just pick up the newspaper and throw it away with all the food, faeces and other stuff on it.
So can chinchillas eat newspaper?
Yes they can if they try to nibble on it when it is laid out in their cage. The ink is no longer poisonous so it is fine if they eat it.
It won’t be something that they devour as it doesn’t taste very nice for them, but if they happen to chew it, that’s fine.
